As an interior designer, every project is an exciting opportunity to create a space that reflects my clients’ personalities and needs. When I was approached by a family in Botanic Ridge, they had a home built in the early 2000s—a time when personalisation in design wasn’t as widely available. The result was a house filled with materials and finishes that no longer aligned with their evolving style. Moreover, while the home was spacious, the kitchen was small and impractical for a family home Together, we set out to reimagine their living space, transforming it into a personalised, functional, and luxurious home that’s perfect for family life and entertaining.
The original materials used in the home—while perhaps fitting for the time—no longer resonated with the homeowners' refined tastes. The colors, textures, and finishes felt dated and disconnected from the contemporary coastal style they envisioned. Our first step was to update and replace those elements, creating a cohesive, modern aesthetic that aligns with their personal style.By incorporating lighter tones, natural materials, and coastal-inspired finishes, we were able to create a welcoming atmosphere that feels fresh and inviting. This shift in materiality laid the foundation for the rest of the home's transformation, ensuring that each room feels timeless and tailored to their lifestyle.
The kitchen, while functional, was small and not well-suited to the needs of a family. It was tucked away from the rest of the living spaces, which made it feel disconnected from the flow of the home. Moreover, its compact size didn’t offer enough room for the clients to entertain or cook comfortably. To address this, we designed a minor extension into the alfresco area, significantly expanding the kitchen and connecting it seamlessly to the outdoor space. This extension opened up incredible opportunities for redesigning the kitchen, allowing for a much larger layout that now suits both the scale of the home and the clients' modern coastal style.
After tackling the main living areas, we turned our attention to the master ensuite. This space needed to reflect the clients’ desire for sophistication and luxury—especially considering how hard they work and how important it is for them to have a private retreat. The original ensuite, while serviceable, lacked the luxurious feel they wanted and didn’t fit the scale of the master bedroom. We completely reimagined the layout and design, introducing custom vanities. The goal was to create a serene, spa-like atmosphere, where the clients could unwind after a long day. Now, the ensuite is an indulgent retreat that combines beauty and functionality.
In addition to the kitchen and ensuite, we also reconfigured the home's wetrooms to better suit the clients' lifestyle. The bathrooms and laundry were updated to be more functional, organised, and aligned with the home’s coastal design theme. Thoughtful storage solutions, modern fixtures, and soft, neutral tones were incorporated to ensure that each wetroom was not only practical but also a place of calm and relaxation.Thanic Ridge home is now a true entertainer’s dream. With a spacious, open-plan kitchen that flows seamlessly into the alfresco area, the home is perfect for hosting friends and family. The updated wetrooms and luxurious ensuite elevate the experience for both the homeowners and their guests. This transformation has turned a home that once felt disconnected from the clients’ style into a personalised, functional, and sophisticated space that works for them on every level. It’s a place where family life can flourish, and entertaining is made easy. The new
